Here’s a quick hit that I think plenty of people could benefit from. It’s a How-To article on building a light box on the über cheap by photographer Jeffrey Bail.

For those not in the know, a light box is what photographers use to get a clear, shadow-free picture of an item that is usually used in advertising or sales. A properly photographed item makes the difference between a professional looking image and a absolute rookie “I shot this on my bed for eBay” image. Not only are these steps laid out for the complete novice, it is also done on an extremely limited budget with very obtainable items lie a cardboard box, muslin, tape and glue.

I’m going to make one of these myself because I actually have some items to prepare for the web. We’ll see how well it works!
While we’re on the topic of homemade how-tos here are a couple of other website specifically geared to getting your creative game on. There’s Make Magazine with a great blog on making everyday items such as a backyard still(!!!) and Make-Stuff.com for “people who just like to make stuff”.
