Openads recently rebranded themselves as OpenX and hired Jon Miller, the former CEO of AOL, as chairman. OpenX, which was phpAdsnew before becoming Openads, provides a hugely popular open source adserver solution for managing your own ad campaigns.

It has a host of features and a large user community which is an incredible leap forward since the days of phpAdsNew when you were left with a lot of options, but very little help in understanding how to use them. The Openads website has a host of features to help you get along nicely with it’s product including updates, company blog, user groups & even videos like this one
introducing rookies to the ways of online advertising.
You use Openads to manage your website’s banner and ad campaigns and it packs a lot of great functionality into it including the ability to prioritize campaigns, target advertisers and visitors and control frequency. There is also a large reporting section that allows you to track how well your campaigns are doing and to “review the statistical performance of a specific banner, campaign, advertiser, publisher or zone and re-prioritize your banners as needed.” These reports help you prove to all your clients that your site is worth advertising on! Very nice.
I can attest to the power behind OpenX as a user of phpAdsNew, but I am most thrilled that not only has the software remained free of charge, but that documentation and support have become a priority. I will be upgrading the old adserver with the latest version of OpenX and will report back!
